I have 140 2002 Suzukis. I have an intermittant shift problem with failure to go into forward....never any problem in reverse. Last year took it to shop, put T-9 on bushing and it worked for a while. Now grinds trying to go into forward. On the trailer, shifted, sprayed with Corrosion Block and it seemed to work fine. Shifted into gear fine on the trailer. Put in water(left it on the trailer) and won't shift. So I have an engine that shifts on the trailer but not in the water. Help!! When it does start shifting it does so without any problems for awhile.

Re: shift bushing?

could be a worn bushing or your linkage is out of adjustment. it moves on the trailer cause engine isn't running. let me find my manual and i'll post photos

I'll monitor the progress of your thread. Sounds very similar to the problem I have with my 1994? 200 Suzuki 2 stroke. Ratchets when I try to shift into forward.:(

Re: shift bushing?

i just addressed this in another post. hers picture of forward reverse link 1st check that it travels about 2" in either direction from neutral(forward and reverse) if it doesn't then disconnect and try by hand. if this works than its your controls not you gear box, could be out of adjustment, but more likely worn or broken cable, bushing or another part in side control box. I wouldn't open box unless pretty mechaniclly inclinded or you have owner manual. everything has to fit just right. i was an auto mechanic for 20 years, it kinda of like rebuilding a manual trans. hears pics of linkage, red is throttle, green is forward/reverse
