Shift cable adjustment question

Just finished replacing the shift cable on my 1983 Mercruiser 260. I made the adjustments at the shift plate according to the manual (I'm pretty sure). I'm getting a good forward and reverse prop lock and a good free spin in neutral. What is questionable though is that it has a stronger ratcheting sound and feel when I spin the prop in the opposite direction when it is in reverse that it does in forward. Should it be like that? If it shouldn't be like that what should I check? Thanks

IMO I don't think you have an issue. Sounds in a gear bow vary based on location and harmonics. I would put it in the water and see how it does, that's the true test.

^^^ I agree. If you have a good firm lock in forward and reverse and free spin in neutral, then it sounds like you are good to go!
