Re: Shift cable bellow replacement

no you don't have to take the Bell housing off it will be tight so some would think taking the Bell housing off for more space is better but it can be done so just take a good look at it and you will see for yourself . i bought the hinge pin it worked great i heard some people using a 1/2 allan socket but i think the hinge pin is safer. one last thing replace all three bellows at once it will save you time when you have to replace the bellows later anyways GOOD LUCK !!

You do not have to remove the bellhousing, but you do have to remove the outdrive and shift cable.

I changed mine without removing the outdrive. I used a 8mm (5/16") 1/4 inch drive socket with a u-joint and a 12" extention to remove the gear clamp (outdrive all the way up and turned to port).
I undid the cable from the inside and pulled it out from underneath. lube the brass piece at the end of the cable and the cable casing itself to slide it back in the new bellow and then reinstall.
Count turns/mark before you undo the cable from the inside so when putting it back together you won't have to readjust the forward/neutral/reverse.
