89 merc 4.3 alpha one 186 eclipse, boat, the boat mech. down the road done alot of work to my boat, including a new shift cable, it was dieing going into gear. i told him the shift cable needed adjusted, he called said ready to go. he screwed with the micro switch, said it was sticky, but i had same problems, i removed the switch, both wires were very loose had to be causing a short, i repaired, now it just dies going into reverse,i say it needs adjusted, he says its old and sat 2 years and it needs replaced to the upgraded switch system, which i do like,the mechanics of it have to work better than this old rocker set up, but still , it never did this till he put the new cable on, and i no longer have to push in the safety lever on the throttle to engage it,...any thoughts? let him put on the new micro system for 200$ ? find the info and adjust it myself??
