So I'm working replacing my bellows, gimbal, etc... I tried to remove the nut on the end of the shift cable and broke the cable trying to remove the slide

How in earth are you supposed to get the slide off? This seems to be the most difficult part of the process to me

You really need the manual before you really break something expensive.

Thank you Dennis.

So I'm thinking with the nut removed and disconnected from the engine bay the cable pulls completely out of the transom? The boot is then slid on through the back of the cable and then fed back through the transom?

I'll probably be reaching out you for your adjustment write up. Ill send you an email

Thanks again

the nut comes out with the cable, but before you do remove anyhing remove the shift cable core and insert a used control cable core. available from any shop for free into the shift cable from inside the boat. Now pull the old sheath out leaving the core as a guide..
Place the core thru the new cable sheath and vise grip the core end one pushes and one pull the new cable into place

Thanks again for the replies everyone. I really didn't see anything too expensive that I could break... Other than the cable itself.

I already broke the first shift cable... And ordered a replacement. So it looks like I'll be searching for a the insert to remove the core.

Once I receive the new cable I should beable to look at it and figure out how it works. Wasn't expecting the cable to be this involved.

4so that core should just pull right out?
Only after your remove the components inside the boat, 4B-7 and 4B-8 in that link
You first remove the old cable core by removing the parts inside the boat and pul the slide and core as a unit.
Now take the solid core from a "control cable" you have to cut it to remove the solid core and pass it thru the old cable, this acts as a guide, without it you can get yourself into some real trouble.Use it as the pull wire to install the new cable

Thank you for clarification.

I literally just received the replacement cable and can see exactly how it works now. I've already pulled the old cable out since i broke it. I'll instert the new cable in without the core, through the transome to the engine. Screw the nut in. Place the slide on the end and then feed up to the engine to parts 4B-7 and 4B-8 and adjust it

I completed all the steps the only thing I did incorrectly with the old cable was thinking that the little hexagon on the end of the cable after the slide would screw off and it broke... I guess I thought you had to slide it out from inside the boat. All I really had to do was disconnect it from the throttle connections on engine and pull the slide out with the core... geesh

And one more question, the slide does not fit over the conduit correct?
