Hi all. My apologies if this topic has already been flogged to death but I just couldn't find the info I need in a search.
I am about to replace the old style shift cable on my 'R' leg, I have a new style cable but not the new fittings. While reading through the mercruiser manual I note there are a couple of differences between the two (aside from the new way of mounting the brass retaining nut), including a different size hole through the shift slide? My question is, can this hole safely be drilled out to accommodate the new thicker cable? What size hole should i dill? Are there any other differences that I need to be aware of which may affect the utilization of the old fittings with the new cable? I realize that in hind site I probably would have been better to buy a complete kit with new fittings as well but unfortunately I need to work with what I've got now.
Also, does anyone have the link to how to change the cable, including correct way to tap the housing? I know I've seen it somewhere but I don't seem to be able to find it now.
Thanks so much!
