I have been searching for a few minutes but I may be so tired that I am just over looking the answer.

So here is the question. I have a 1985 force 85 hp motor, put it on my new bayliner hull today that had newer controls on it. they look identical and hook up just fine no problems the motor that came off was a newer 89-92 model 85-90 hp force the man wasnt 100 percent sure. I can get the throttle to open all the way no issues and it will engage reverse with out any issues either actually better then it use to do, (Yes I know it is a bad idea to engage the gears without the motor running, This is not a normal practice of mine.) I cant get forward to engage in fact it barely moves going into forward, how do i adjust the cable? I thought it was loosen the nut back by the connector on the motor end. However that doesnt allow anything to move unless i am moving the wrong part on the cable.

I was thinking if i cant get the cable to do anything I might be able to just swap the old shift cable out from my old box. this is a pic of the old cable with the same fittings as the new one. It is dark out now and I didnt think about it a head of time. IMAG0259.jpg

Re: shift cable

NOt yet I havent I didnt even think of that to be honest. I am going to try hooking her up to some water and test starting it this evening to make sure it is wired correctly. I will attempt to put her in gear while it is running to see if it even goes or not. But just in case how do I adjust the cables?
