I seem to have a lot of travel in my shift cables when going into forward gear and do not want to take this into the shop for repair. I am good with mechanics and following directions if anyone could please give me a step by step directions on how to properly adjust shift/throttle cables. It goes into reverse just fine, and doesn't seem to bind or feel stiff when shifting.

Re: Shift Cables

What is/are your symptoms? Can't engage forward? or Engine RPM's increase before forward engages?

We don't even know what you have? year? drive?
(scratch that) ^^^^ just seen it at the end of your post....

How old is the lower shift cable from the shift plate to the outdrive?

There is no adjustment at the remote shifter... the only adjustment that can be done to the cable is at the plate on the engine, and if necessary after adjusting the lower cable.
