Shift Console not working propery

Well, I am pretty disappointed. I thought I was going on the boat tonight for the first time this year. Been working on it for a few days now, this morning things were great. Now the shift lever isn't working.

Seems stuck in forward gear. Will move freely back and forth in forward gear. Will not engage to go in reverse. Choke is not moving, so I assume it will not go to neutral.

I disconnected the cables from the outboard and still the same problem.

I need some help. Pic included.

You have to open it up. It sounds as if the detent piece is broken.

If you know the year you can go on www.shop.evinrude.com and find an exploded diagram.

I have broke it open, even separated, the shift lever will not go into reverse.

What do you mean by detente piece?

Now pull the top cam off and show me the bottom of it and the top of the other lever. Then I can tell you if its the control box and what is bad.

When trying to take it off I saw a broken tooth on the round top cam.

However, I can't figure out how it comes apart?? Does the shift lever have to separate first or do those 3 pins pull straight out?

I am noticing that you can order almost any part for this remote control, every this part is labeled obsolete.

Does that mean it has been replaces by another part?
