I am trying to help a bud out that has a '92 4.3L OMC Cobra I/O with a lower unit completly rebuilt and a new shift cable. The lower unit is clanking, popping, and clunking when engaged but not in neutral. In gear I can see the Interrupt Cam moving, can this be the cause of the clanking and popping. What I think is happening is that the swich is being hit by the cam very briely causing the engine to detune itself, causing the gears to disengage and immediatly reengage. Anybody have any ideas, suggestions, or comments regarding what in the he!! is going on? Thanks in advance!!

if you dont have a service manual to refer to i would STOP before any futher damage happpens

the only thing i can tell you for sure is that the interupt is only ment to allow the drive to come out of gear

on any brand of drive there are a bunch of steps that have to done in the correct order for the drive to shift correctly

tommays

Besides the interupt do you have any other ideas or suggestions to look at. Should there be any movement in the interput cam?
