I'm new to this forum but not to posting in general. I have been digging around the website looking for information to help with a install I am working on. (My fathers boat we are prepping for a trip to the ocean)

The boat has twin 4.3 motors. The motor we are working on has a casting date of 1986. On the block there is a casting number of gm43lg. The boat is a 86 sea ray 267. It has SE 300 outdrives.

Both motors run pretty strong on the water. It looks to have all the original parts and no updates to it.

When you put and 1st put it in gear the swift interrupter(which are still the old style micro switches) the motor will struggle unless you work the throttle a little bit, once the rpms come up it runs fine. First thought after reading was the shift interruptor (which a friend had a brand new one and gave it to us free) Now i'm not so sure. The cables seem to be a big hassle and seem to make the shift interrupter look bad..

I would still like to install the new one but not sure how it goes because there seems to be an extra cable on the old assembly.

Does the new assembly not need both cables, ie the top cable on the old bracket?

After your post I walked outside to lookup what it said again. I am in unfamiliar territory with outdrives. I mostly play with jetboats. Here are some more pics of the outdrives along with serial numbers.

Ayuh,... Ok, you've got 86, 4.3l, Cobra drives...

They use an ESA system, unlike the Mercruiser shift switch...
I'll let somebody more familiar with their wiring answer this for ya...

Yes, you have the dog clutch drive.
SE300 is not the drive, it's a plastic fin on your outdrive. http://www.iboats.com/SE-Sport-Hydr...2261515--**********.115558516--view_id.392319
In reply #3 you showed pictures of the two switch plates. The big problem, your new one is a Mercruiser part, your old one is for your OMC. It's like trying to put Chevy parts on a Ford. OMC and Mercruiser are 2 completely different companies. So much so, OMC went out of buisness in 1998. There are no pictures of that Mercruiser part installed on an OMC engine, now you know why.

What you need to do is get some OEM service manuals for your engine and drive. Ebay is where you need to look, maybe someone here knows a place to get them, I personally don't.
