My starboard motor has developed a nasty habit of dieing unexpectedly as I maneuver in close around the dock. Always raises the pucker factor. I think the idle is a touch low at ~500-600. Seems to happen when I'm shifting from F to R and back. How is this supposed to work? How do I troubleshoot?
If the wheel on the switch dosent center itself, the lower shift cable is bad. the interrupter is doing its job interrupting the ign to shifty out of gear.killing the motor is a sign that the cable or shift mechanism needs work/replacement
+1 on Bt answer. You can probably count on most likely replacing the lower shift cable or at minimum doing an adjustment of the linkage. Lower shift cable is pretty easy. And new ones come precut so adjustment of that cable is a snap to check. I'd recommend OEM merc on that. They are making a superb upgraded cable and housing.
