right hand drive alpha 1 gen 1.

when the shift leaver is pushed all the way back in the bell housing; what should the orientation of the upper shift shaft shoe be ? I took it apart to do the seals and can't remember which way the shoe is supposed to point. There are only two options. Any explanation that helps me get the shaft the right way around would be great.

Second. I installed a new lower shift cable and all went well until i went to put on the end cable guide. With my son on the prop; I gently pushed on the cable and spun the barrel to get to the 6 inches. Except I had to spin the barrel tword the cable guide all the way until I ran out of threads, then it was at 6 inches. I this normal?

The guide is threaded all the way into the cable; stop nut is tight; I thought there would be a few threads left to go less than 6 inches with the barrel?

thanks

The shift shaft foot points towards the engine.

I just did both of my lower cables, and the barrel was very close to the brass fitting at the end of the cable sheath.

Re: shift leaver. and lower cable change

with respect to the upper shift shoe ; I was asking which way it went as the shoe is off-set. i found a drawing and I have it correct. Thanks for your input JT.

I am still concerned with the lower shift cable. I will try to explain again. Installed the whole kit. new cable, new shift slide, new inner cable, went to adjust the end to the recommended 6 inches. Had it in forward, son holding the prop locked in gear. I gently pushed on the end and had to spin the barrel all the way in tword the plastic end guide, ran out of threads, and it is at 6 inches. Is this the way the cables are made now or am I missing somthing.

Thanks for your help and I hope I have asked this with more clariety.

does this pic help. it's from a mc-1. alpha1 would be similar
i'm laying on my back looking up at the drive from ft to back
this drive is in neutral. when in fwd the coupler faces fwd. when in rev. it continues turning to port.

Thanks ziggy.

Yeah I have the shift shoe all in correct. I appreciate the effort for that pic.

I do have the shift cable end guide 6 inches from hole to barrel center but with no threads left. i was just wondering if that was normal. seems to me that there should have been some threads left either way.
