Can anyone help an absent minded novice landlubber identify and help me find the right bolt please. 1989 Johnson J50BELCEC I lost the bolt after replacing the water pump and cant connect the shift rod back to the U shaped "receiver" and cant find a diagram showing the bolt clearly. All of the exploded diagrams have been searched with no luck. It doesn't show it in the lower unit diagram, only the shift rod. It is about 1/2 inch long with a 3/8 hex head followed with a shoulder then short threads. It would be nice to take it to the lake and try out my impeller work. Much thanks for your help.

See your local Evi rude dealer. Or look at the parts listing. Google is your friend.

Find a screw 1/2" long with the correct thread.---------File some threads off to find a pin that will go through the shift rod.

Have you done this successfully? The shoulder that fits the shift shaft hole has a larger O.D. than the threads.

It would work if you didn't file down to the thread root to get the OD you need. As long as it's the right OD, a few grooves wouldn't hurt, and would help carry some grease for the pin to work.
