I have a 1993 4.3 liter OMC engine and cobra outdrive. In order to start the boat the throttle has to be past straight up towards reverse aprox 15?C. It starts fine there and when u shift back to straight up its still in neutral. SLightly forwards u go forwards but when u pull back to straight up its not in neutral but still in gear and u have to pull back that extra bit to make it to be in neutral. I am sure its my shift linkage thats poorly adjusted. I need to first know how does the boat know its in neutral so I can adjust it so it will start in true neutral. PLease help.

Thanks Alan

Howdy Alan,

All the neutral safety switch "stuff" is in the throttle/shift quadrant in your right hand (when sitting in the drivers seat!)

It's unlikely they get out of adjustment so I would suspect something actually broken there.....Hard to say, you'll have to pull the thing, take it apart and have a look.

Mine was a little "loosey-goosey" so I pulled it and replaced it. I didn't want to screw with something that could mess up and cause me to either run into something or over somebody!!

I bought the following model.... CH-1700 http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG...10/05/CH1700_7500_7600_instruction_manual.pdf It was something like $289 or so.

You can buy them right here on iboats!

Cheers,

Rick

Okay so I think I fixed it myself not alot of help here but wil share the information for others. I pulled the shifter back to find neutral start postion as I said it was back aprox 15?C. I then rotated the shifter back on the gears and reassymbled it when it would start in neutral. Now shift lever and neurtal start are in perfect alignment. I then had to adjust my shift linkage a little to make revers and forwards both work. Tested and it works pretty good still a small adjustment i think needs done with the linkage but its very close now.
Thanks Alan
