Hey, it's me again. I was noticing my shifting on my '57 gale 25hp buccaneer seems stiff. I oiled my cables and they seem to work ok. when I disconnect the cable and try to shift manually, it is very difficult to get into forward and umpossible to get into reverse.

There is a lever, or bar of some sort that runs from my external shifter, inside the housing straight up to the top of my engine. It pivits back and forth depending on the position of the external shifter.

I noticed it looks like something at the top seems to block it from piviting inward ( top inward, bottom outward ) . Does anyone know what i'm talking about?

Re: shift linkage

Yeah, that is the shifter interlock that prevents you from shifting it at high throttle settings, and also prevents advancing the throttle beyond the normal start position when in neutral. You are defeating it's purpose and trying to shift it with the throttle set too high. Back off on the throttle and see the difference. It may be worn too, if it doesn't do the above listed things.

Note that you may have to twirl the prop to get it to go into gear when not running.
