I was given a '77 35hp Johnson outboard with the foot in parts. Putting it back together, I found that the shift pivot pin screw was broken. The owner had stripped the head of the screw while taking it apart and decided to drill out the screw causing the screw hole to be enlarged. Is there any fix for this? I would hate to buy a new gearcase just for this. I also found that the two cavitation fins are broken in the front. would this cause a running problem?

Re: shift pivot pin screw

think I would be on the lookout for a used lower unit. Any outboard boneyards in your area? You can build/rebuild one from the combined parts, but I think you will want a new housing.
