I have a 1972 125hp electric push button shift that lately when trolling poppped out of gear and into neutral...shut off the key switch and it goes back into gear. Second problem is when I put direct power on take off the engine slips into neutral and the engine RPM's go up, but yet if I ease the throttle it goes ok. Any Ideas as to what this could be?? I checked the prop hub and it looks fine? This engine has no shear pin, just a rubber inner hub. <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Shift problems

put a mark across the inner hub and outside . run after slipping check marks if marks are misalinged you have slipping prop.when power fails to this foot it will stay in foward gear . nutral & reverse takes power to the cylidnoids. papasage>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Re: Shift problems

I took off the prop and vise gripped the prop shaft and put the prop on upside down over the spline...held the shaft from turning and tried to rotate the prop to see if it would slip on the hub...I forced it by hand pretty hard and it did'nt slip. Is this differant in water?? I was thinking if it was going to slip, by me turning it buy hand with the shaft clamped it would have spun?
