Working on my '68 evin 18hp fastwin. Model #18803M. I am putting in a new l/u seal kit. The only problem I have is installing the "fat" o-ring that seals the shift rod. There is a brass bushing in the l/u housing that appears to be pressed in on top of the old o-ring. I got the old o-ring out but cannot put the new one in without removing the brass shift rod bushing. I cant seem to get it out and am nervous that I will do damage if I try harder.
Is there a trick to getting that bushing out?
Do I need to take it out to replace the o-ring?
