Re: Shift rod housing cracked
I fixed one worse that by first drilling a small brass washer so the shift rod could easily move through it, then sanding it down to ~ 1/16" thick. I put some BRP gasket sealant around the edges and seated it in the remaining lip area. After installing the rubber oring, remember to allow for the thickness of the washer when tapping the bushing home. I've started just leaving the shift rod in place while seating the bushing...move the rod in and out as you seat the bushing so that you don't "expand" the oring to the degree that it won't allow the rod to move w/o considerable force...btdt. Just to be clear that's washer in first, then oring, followed by the bushing. This set up lasted at least one fishing season as I sold the motor the following spring...1971< '69? > Evinrude 25 hp.
