I am following the instructions on page 379 of Clymer's Rude/Johnson Repair Manual to remove the gearcase on my 1976 115 HP Evinrude, but I can not find the shift rod retaining pin under the carburetors area, as it is depicted on figure 7B. Is it possible that this engine was designed with another way to loosen the shift rod?

Thanks in advance

I am not looking at the service manual, so bear with me! On the 1976, below the carb's on the strbrd. side you will see a bell crank that pivots on a bolt with a 5/8 head. Loosen the bolt, and spread the bell crank which is a two piece affair. This will release the shift rod.

Thank you R. Johnson, I knew it had to be different from the manual! :)
