I changed the impeller on my 1250 that I got after it sat for about three yrs without being used. After many tries of reinstalling the L/U in rev fwd and neutral and still no shifting I disconnected the cables and found it still wouldn't shift w/ it all together, but shifted fine with the the L/U dropped. It appears as tho the splines on the upper shift shaft are somewhat stripped!
Seemed kinda strange to me.
So my question would be :
Is it possible to remove the upper shift shaft with the L/U dropped as it is, or are there other components that need to be removed first.
I know , get the manual! But being a holiday weekend all the local shops were closed by the time I had any free time for the boat.
Anybody ever had a shift shaft strip?
Thanks for any thoughts.
