Just curious as to what the signs are of a bad shift shaft seal. Trying to learn a little about the Alpha One Gen II and wandered what to look for. I would greatly appreciate any insight. Thanks.

Re: shift shaft seal question

milky gear lube, loss of gear lube

only way to know for sure if the shift shaft seal is bad is to pressure test the drive

Re: shift shaft seal question

Mine was leaking a couple years ago. I didn't see water intrusion, but it did leak on my driveway and drained a part of the fill reservoir.

If in doubt, replace. It was inexpensive and easy.

Re: shift shaft seal question

Hi , just saw your post! Did you have drive oil coming from the intake weep holes on the port side?
I have NO water in the drive oil ( just drained and inspected) but have a little of the green gear oil leaking from said weep holes and am trying to figure it out! have it apart now to do the impeller and seals which have not come in
Thanks!!!

Re: shift shaft seal question

I don't recall exactly where it was coming out. I mostly remember following the drip to the shift shaft seal. Sorry my memory's not better.
