I raised my alpha one outdrive up and left it up for about 5 hours. later on I noticed a few drops of oil coming out of the little pee hole. Its never leaked anywhere before. The last time I had the lower unit off I noticed the shift shaft was lose and wobbled around alittle. It was damp with oil also. Im pretty sure this is the culprit of my leak. It looks like if it were to leak out of the seal it would run down the chamber and out the pee hole. When I pull the lower unit off , how do I remove the bushing and seal? Does it screw out? It has a metal washer around the shift shaft. The manual I have dose'nt cover seal and bushing replacement. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your boat may have been repowerd in the mid 80's. The 170 is a 470 style motor that was used in 85 and 85.
IF they changed the drive and all during the change, then you need service manual #6 to cover the drive.
Even if you have the original drive, the shift shaft bushing is the same process to change.
Download section 3B, then go to page 3B-19. Shows how to change it.

But before you change it or take anything apart. Remove the drive, drain it, and do a pressure and vacuum check to find ALL the leaks while you have it apart.
