Re: SHIFT SWITCH 1972 JOHNSON HYDRO-ELECTRIC

Hi, just recently had the same problem with my 1972 50 HP Johnson. The switch cost me about $84 and is available at most Johnson dealers. Installation is straightforward, but just cut and solder one wire at a time. I can hook you up with at least two dealers in my (Chicago) area if you can't find it locally. If you are really stuck I'll go back to the place where I bought mine and find you the part number and the dealer's address/phone number/etc. Email me if I can help. ****_taber@hotmail.com
Good luck, Rich

Re: SHIFT SWITCH 1972 JOHNSON HYDRO-ELECTRIC

Considering you didn't tell me the HP, I can't be sure. Mine's a 1972 50HP. The switch is in the lower forward corner of the throttle quadrant, is held down by 2 screws, is oval in shape, and has a small arm with a roller sticking upward. Five wires come out of the body of the switch housing; if I remember correctly there are two white, one blue, one purple, and one green.

Re: SHIFT SWITCH 1972 JOHNSON HYDRO-ELECTRIC

I am sorry about the HP thing. I am certain it is the exact same part that I am looking for. I put in three requests all over the net and got one response for the Whole shift box for $150. The box is in mint, the switch was sticking that is all. I still have not had a chance to check around as working at a bank do not really have to much time during the week. Thank You and I will be in contact...

Re: SHIFT SWITCH 1972 JOHNSON HYDRO-ELECTRIC

I have only located one "dealer" of Johnson Parts in Denver, IN which has this part and it is $90 and they are not responding to my requests on arrangements to purchase. Which dealer did you purchase yours from and do you happen to have a phone number? I am in dire need of this in order to get the boat back in operation and no shop around my area, Sacramento, CA has it. Thanks in advance....

Re: SHIFT SWITCH 1972 JOHNSON HYDRO-ELECTRIC

I got my switch from Denna's Lawn and Sports, 560 N York Road, Bensenville, IL 60106 Phone is (630) 766-5019.

The other place that said they had one was Ahlstrand Marine, their web address is http://www.ahlstrand-marine.com/ phone (847) 949-8899. Ahlstrand had it in stock but was up the road a piece, Denna had to order it (took about three days) butthey're almost on my way home from work and are good folks. About $84 either place.

Found both of these at http://www.johnsonoutboards.com/
you can put in your zip and it will locate dealers in your area. Good luck and let me know how it works out, Rich

Scarchest...

So far the price as noted in previous postings is $84-$90. How much total to send to Sacramento, CA via prority or overnight? I am wanting the part ASAP. The shift box is a Hydro-electric shift box out of a 72 Johnson 125hp. The Control box is a push button on top to shift. The shift switch should be the same...

Please write back ASAP ...

Sincerely,
Dire need
