Hello to all and thanks in advance.. Ok i have a 86 Wellcraft nova with a fresh rebuilt 5.7. When i bought the boat last year it had numerous automotive parts which i have replaced with marine parts one of which being the ignition setup. The switch only has one wire on it right now (from when i bought it) due to it was not hooked up. The wire that is on the switch is grounded and if i open the switch it does ground the other side of the switch at the spade. Per the instructions of the Delco distributor i have 2 different ways to wire it and i dont want to fry anything so i came here. There is a single lead that comes from the distributor thats shows to run to the switch and shows the other side of the switch going to a +12v supply. The other way shows that same lead from the distributor going to the switch, then the other side of the switch splicing into a "Switched B+ Wire (resistance free) then to the coil. After searching online for this common issue i have read that the switch is supposed to be a ground circuit and not a +12v circuit. Cant someone please let me know which route i should go.. I have tried grounding out the single black lead from the distributor and nothing happens. I have not tried putting +12 volts to it due to im scared i will fry something. Thank you

EDIT
Gray enters terminal block, and exits as white/green. White/green runs to right side of sensor assembly on distributor. Your black just gets grounded. Unless I'm misunderstanding what shift switch you're talking about.....

Sorry. Read the diagram wrong first time. Sleepy.....😪
Does the diagram help? Or is this the one you've been using?

the one wire that's on my shift interrupter loops from the switch, around the cable shift plate and grounds to the ground scre under the switch. I have a black lead that comes from my distributor however grounding it did not do anything. The instructions that came with the ignition kit shows the black lead from the distributor going to one side of the switch and the other side going to a +12v power supply.
