:confused:1998 Merc 115 water pump change went without a hitch...Until....I go to put the lower unit back on and with all the shifting I got it out of sink..when I shift into forward..im in Forward when I shift into Neutral...Im in Forward and when I shift into Reverse it almost goes into Neutral....will it be as easy as removing the lower unit again and turning the lower shift shaft until its in Neutral and placing my shifter into Neutral and bolting it back up?

Yes. Although it can help to put both in the forward gear so you can turn the prop slightly, if needed, to help allign the splined shaft as your putting the lower unit back on.

Great thanks but what direction do I turn the lower shift shaft to get it into neutral or forward or reverse is there stops at the in gear position or will the shaft continue to turn all the way around?

Re: Shifter and Lower Unit out of sink!

Fixed!!!! It took all of about 15 minutes to drop the lower unit after placing the shifter into reverse, turning the lower shift shaft counter-clockwise into Reverse, slid the lower unit back into place a little wiggle and it slid right in just like its suposed to!
Thanks so much!
