OK so here's my story.

Grew on living on the river my whole life, just bought my first boat this year. Its a 1995 Chapparal 1930SS with a 305 V-8 and a mercruiser alpha 1 outdrive. The boat is in good condition and we were out a few weeks ago and someone asked me why my boat was pumping out so much water. It had never taken on a drop of water the first month and a half that I had it out. It only takes the water in when the prop is up. I searched around the outdrive and noticed that the shifter cable boot it dry rotted and cracked. Is this a job that I could do it I get a manual? I have some experience working on cars and like ot work on things but I've never seen an outdrive off.

Also, if I do it or get someone else to do it, what else should I change or look at while it is apart? Oh yeah, it had a new shifter cable put on last year or the year before. Don't know why they didn't go ahead and replace the boot.

Thanks.

OK, I just ordered a manual and it should be here in a couple days. Would it be smart to go ahead and get a bellow kit to replace all of them? And are there any tricks to keep in mind while replacing? I did hear something about puting in drive before removing outdrive.

if your going to do all the bellows you might as well change the shift cable out as well.
