I need help with removing the handle on shift control.Seems that the button in handle that you lift up on broke my last outing,it is just loose in handle. My problem is I can't seem to get the handle off so I can remove unit.It has a philips head screw in center were nuetral button is which I unscrewed, the handle will slide out about a 1/4 inch but no futher. Is there something I am missing or what.I have to get handle off to remove shift assembly from behind fiberglass siding.Does this make any since.

Re: Shifter Handle Help

Went through the same thing two weeks ago. There is an allen screw in the bottom of the shifter that must be removed before you can take the shifter apart. You are most likely looking at replacing the old shifter. They just are not worth the fuss to fix. <br />Good luck

I got the shifter apart alright and found the lever that you lift up on to take it out of netral is broken into. Now all I have hanging there is the silver metal part of handle which looks like it has teeth inside it.I haven't found a allen screw yet.I have nearly stood on my head trying to get the rest of this handle of.I figure I will replace the hole shift assemble if I ever get this handle off so I can lower the shift unit from behing the fiberglass.

Re: Shifter Handle Help

I bought a new shift from a guy i know that works in a boat shop and does work on the side. He had a brand new one for 70 dollars but i had to mount my trim and tilt next to the shifter.
