Shifter in Reverse

I have a 1996 2855 Bayliner. Recently I have noticed that when in reverse and shifted to neutral it would stay in reverse, I would then have to move the handle slightly forward (out of neutral)to get it out of reverse. Finally it got suck in reverse gear. Now when I shift to neutral or forward its still stuck in reverse gear. Also when I start the engine it automaticaly goes into reverse gear. Any advise? Thanks

What outdrive you got?

Bravo III outdrive. No work have been done on the outdrive. I had replaced 2 years ago the shifter controller since the neutral switch got stuck and their was a recall on that part.
