I have a 1992 four winns 190 horizon I/O with the 5.0 OMC Cobra.

My shifter is sticky or "gummy" while shifting from drive to reverse. When I shift from drive to neutral to reverse the shift lever with stick in neutral not wanting to shift into reverse until I am rough with it. A couple times it has now done the same when going from reverse to neutral, then trying to go into drive it will stick in neutral. Boat is 20 years old but has been pampered and maintained and the engine still hums like new while in gear.

Any thoughts, Thanks

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... It sounds like yer controller has a neutral lock that's busted or worn out,....

Don't sound like a motor/ drive issue,...

Got pictures of yer controller,..??

Does this do this on muffs or only in the water?

Re: Shifter sticking from drive to reverse

Thanks for the quick response. I don't have pics of controller but am headed back to the boat this weekend so can take some pics tomorrow. May sound silly...but anything in particular I'm looking for to identify its busted?

Thanks again

Running your engine out of the water while on the trailer.

Is your boat currently in the water?

Just to be sure, you are having problems getting into neutral for either forward or reverse right?
