Toward the end of last years season, my cables were getting harder to move. Having a dual helm, I have twice the number of cables. It will get pretty pricey to replace. Plus the routing of them would be a major pain to pull new ones through.

I have some tanks that has a bottom pickup tube, then another fitting that is for air. (They were designed as a pressurized vessel).

I was planning on using a Kerosene/oil mixture to flush and lube the cables buy hooking a hose over the cable end to the outside jacket. Then the other end of the hose hooked to my pressure tank. Of course apply maybe just 5 psi air pressure to start out with, then work the cable back and forth from the other end till residue of old contaminates comes out.

What lube should I use to flush out my cleaning mixture once the cable move nice and free? Any suggestions?

Thanks from the SS.....

Hey SS MAYFLOAT

I would try to force some graphite cable lube into the cable core after you get it cleaned. It's gonna be messy, but if you can get it in there, it should work.

I used the graphite lube on mine as preventitive maintenance and it's holding up well. If you have to replace the cables, tape the new one to the old one and pull it through you can save a bunch of time. Tie another length of string (strong stuff) to it as well in case you want to pull something else through at a later date. Sounds like it's been rather chilly there!
