I guess I tried this in the wrong forum, the outboard advice does not work..LMAO.
seriosly, I bought this 1974 silverline with the merc 888 I/O. first trip out it had forward only. I took the stern drive off and found the shift linkage disconnected. I put it back and now i have forward in reverse and reverse in forward. I did not open the gear case. the throw on the upper end of the intermediate shift shaft is facing forward, and the remote is in forward so they mate together when reinstalling the drive unit.
Is there something I am not seeing or is it in the lower gear case (I hope not) the aft end of the engine turns clockwise....
In the water it seems to shift okay just reversed, but adding throttle stalls the engine....
