So I purchased a 1989 Crestliner with an mercruiser alpha one. First time I took it out it started to overheat so I replaced the impeller and after the impeller was replaced the boat would stall and die while trying to shift into reverse. I assumed the overheat may have damaged the lower shift cable because the interrupter looked like it was cutting power off so I decided to replace the shift cable. I just put the new cable in and was about to start the adjustment up at the engine but when I pushed in on the shift cable to measure for 6 inches the drive would not go all the way into forward, pulling it out I could get it into reverse. I crawled underneath and could manually put the drive into forward and the prop would lock but it looks like the shift shaft is not completely straight but is locking as if in forward gear?
