Shifting issues- jumping out of gear?

I converted a 1969 Johnson from a SS to a LS using all of the parts from my 1971 Johnson parts motor (water tube, shifter linkage, drive shaft, etc). Now that I've gotten it all back together, it jumps out of forward into neutral, back into forward, while the motor is running at full throttle.

I tried to adjust at the shifter handle, but I'm still having issues, and can't seem to get it to a spot where the clutch stays fully engaged at all times.

Can anyone give me a direction?
Do I have issues that are deeper than my shifter handle?

Did you change the gearset also and did it do this before the conversion?

I bought the motor used and the guy I bought it from didn't mention anything about shifting issues. I had the lower unit apart and all of the gears, clutch dog, etc. looked good.

You can check the shift rod coupler - make sure both upper and lower shift rods are properly seated with the coupler bolts going through the recess in the ends of the rods. However, I suspect a bad clutch dog/forward gear. If you never ran it before the conversion to long shaft, it was probably doing the same thing for the previous owner.
