shifting problem-hydroelectric

have a 72 johnson with hydroelectric...reverse and neutral work fine but forward has no power...it seems to shift into forward somewhat but more throttle doesnt seem to get me anywhere...and suggestions?

You say it shifts in but no power, do you mean it will not turn the prop or that it will turn the prop and slips. If it's the latter it's your prop hub slipping, if it's not pulling at all it might be the forward clutch spring is broken, did you hit something with the prop going forward when this started, if it is the spring good luck finding one, and if you do bring a truck load of money.

it does shift into forward but it never goes above idle speed for the prop, the engine will speed up but the prop doesnt....so I assume it would be the hub?

let me repost that....it does shift into forward and the boat moves very slowly forward, when I increase the throttle the engine RPM's increase but the boat still stays moving the same speed. Do I just need to get a new hub or is there a way to tighten it?

Take the prop to a prop shop and they will re-hub it for a nominal fee...
