more likely a lower shift cable and possible corrosion in the shift system if the drive was not removed

The drive was removed we replaced the U-joint bellows by the look at the picture it looks like is missing the shift assist (been watching you tube) can that be the cause of the shift jam. and by the way when I removed the shift cable I was able to shift by hand with no problem at all

While the 2000 model alpha drive did use the shift assist mechanism, it was placed there to keep folks from shifting slowly. The assist helps make the transition to in gear quicker. That said, just as BT Doc said, its probably your lower shift cable needs replacing. If you followed the correct method to adjust, and your shift interrupter is working (not needed on muffs) then its probably the lower cable

in the second pic the upper cables black plastic goes into the black arm ,not along side it
Remove the cotter pin from the bottom cable and see it that cable moves with no resistance

Ayuh,.... The top cable,... the arm has a pocket in it for the cable end, not hangin' outside the arm,....

I'll give it a shot. Look at the end of the upper shift cable. It's currently attached next to (on the outside of) the large black curved piece. That's incorrect. The large black curved piece has a slot on its underside, that the cable end fits into. The cable end should be enclosed inside the black curved plastic piece.

That was clear as mud, I'm sure :joyous:
