I have been having problems with my boat dying when I put it in gear. I removed the lower shift cable thinking that was the problem. The cable seems to be in very good shape and after I removed it from mounting bracket it slides very smoothly. I have a new one and will replace it anyway, but I started looking elsewhere for the problem. My shift commander has "hard spot" in the middle of the forward throttle range. I removed it and removed the upper shift cable and throttle cable. Both cables work smoothly when disconnected. The shift commander also seems to work smoothly without the cables attached, but there are shiny areas where it appears wear has been occurring. I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with.
1. I can't seem to find a model number for my shifter. The photobucket link shows a schematic of the shifter I have. I assumed it was Quicksilver Commander 2000, 3000, or 4000; but none of the pictures I've found match.

2. Can you buy individual parts or is it an all-or-nothing replacement?
3. If all-or-nothing, is there a replacement that doesn't require me upgrading to Gen II cables? My shifter has power trim plus a trailer button.
I've only done the removal so far on the lower shift cable, but it seems a lot easier than I had thought. Hardest part is the bellows which I will also be replacing. I got a nice tip from this forum on welding two sockets together to be able to unthread the cable from the bellhousing. Worked like a charm and was a lot cheaper than the specialty tool.
Thanks
Mike
