Shifting to reverse....

I just replaced the impeller, with the help of you guys on this post. I installed the lower gear today and now it will not go into reverse. It was hard to get it out of forward. When installing the lower gear I had to spin the propeller to get the splines to line up. Do any of you know what might cause this to happen? Would the impeller but in the wrong way cause this? Thanks for your continued help!
It's a Mercruiser 140 HP 181 Inline 4. S/N 5551275.
The drive shaft has a push pin on the top......

Re: Shifting to reverse....

you dont have the lower unit in correct gear when you installed it. Put throttle shifter in forward and drop lower unit. use a socket on shift spline in lower case and find forward. But becareful not to move it when reinstalling lower unit. I just went thru the same thing on mine I was off like one spline and it was going into forward but not in reverse. good luck
