Shifting when out of water

Can I shift into forward and reverse with boat running and muffs on, or will it damage the drive with the propellor not in water.

jpopp,<br /><br />Shifting out of water only is a risk if someone is hanging onto the prop :eek: <br />Just give the prop time to stop spinning before going the other way. <br /><br />You are only running your engine at idle, ain't you? :) <br /><br />Chris..........

Ya ya ya, don't EVER throttle with the drive up and out of the water!!! :(

Hello, Better yet pull the prop. It needs to come off annually anyhow for a good shaft greasing! Now you will have no worries about a spinning prop causing any damage. It's the safest way to keep your prop from damaging something (including itself!). Hope this helps!
