I am planning to try to get my 69 merc 650 4 cyl running properly before the upcoming season and I understand the 1st step is getting a genuine merc shop/service manual for my model. Where do I find such a thing? I've seen aftermarket ones advertised as well as what looks like genuine ones which include several engines through several years. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Re: Shop Manual

If you can find one the factory manual is the way to go. Yes they will cover different models and maybe two or three years but there weren't as many models as there seems to be today. Changes to engines were not made every year and if changes were made in the middle of a production year it will be noted in the manual by the serial number range of the different motors. A lot of these motors were almost identical except for the changes made for different horsepower ratings. The parts manuals are specific to each model and it is much more difficult to find the exact one for your motor. Their exploded views are great to have to supplement the repair manual if you are lucky enough to find one.
