My boat included a shore lander trailer. It has a short tongue attached to the trailer with bolts. It has surge brakes also. Looks like you take out bolts and make shorter for storage or maybe bolt a swing away bracket on it. By any chance anybody know what im talking about?

Re: shore lander

without pics all we can do is guess.... could be a tilt trailer, could be some sort of a home brew repair, could be an adjustment to fit a bigger or smaller boat, OR could be something else entirely.

Re: shore lander

The tongue on most current Shorelanders is quickly removable by removing a bolt. With surge brakes however, that may not be possible. Shorelander also has a swing tongue option but it is a factory order. You can however order the enginre swing tongue, which inicludes the tongue, the hinge arrangement and the forward (vehicle) end of the tongue. You would have to transfer the surge brake coupler to the new tongue and then bleed the hydraulic system. Shorelanders swing tongue is a very stout arrangement as is shown on mine.

Ok so now we know what you have. What are you wanting to do? Or are you just curious?

Shorlandr sells swing away tongues as aftermarket as well as OEM. My SeaRay had a swing away tongue. best thing on a trailer since surge brakes

For what it's worth I use my swing tongue as an anti-theft device when I'm away on vacation or during the winter time. If someone wants to steal the boat they need to bring their own tongue.

Well this isn't no swing tongue I would guess. And 2nd guess was you could unbolt and lay aside. Both options would shorten it so I could store in my smaller garage. But with surge brakes and a Brake line running thru that don't make much sense either. So can any one tell me What is it for? There has to be a reason for it.

Re: shore lander

It's a modular trailer.... they manufactured it such that a dealer could order whatever length tongue was needed.... It likely is also a convenient length for shipping in two pieces..... That joint is not done with the owner in mind and is not intended for you to do ANYTHING with... If you want a swing away tongue, get a weld on kit and have that joint removed. You will also need a rubber brake hose for the flexible joint and a couple of brackets to mount the ends of the hoses.
