Did some searching and could not find an answer. When hooked up to shore/city water at the dock, when leaving, I always remember to shut off water at the pole in case of a water line break IN the boat I dont want the city water to sink my boat. (very high pressure city water) But on the rare occasion that I may forget to shut it off, or when camping aboard extended days, is there an automatic device that will shut off the water in case of an internal break in the vessel? Thank You

Google 'dockside water auto shutoff valve'.

They exist, but I personally wouldn't trust them any more than I trust the pressure regulator on the boat. My latest boat (the one in my sig) doesn't have a dockside water connection, and I like it. No having to remember to shut off the water, no having to rely on yet another 'device' to do it for me. Fill the onboard tank every couple of days. It only takes a few minutes to do.

Even a sufficiently sized capacity bilge pump which could keep up with the flow rate of a garden host won't do so forever. They are not designed to be continuous duty pumps like on an A/C system or a engine water pump. if you install a highwater alarm then you'd be notified of an issue while you're on the vessel and possible alert folks on the dock if you're away.

The simplest solution is to not use shore water and pull from he tank. If you're in the marina, refilling is a non-issue. if you're on a mooring or anchor, then shorewater is not a concern.

The safest way to prevent is to do what I do.Where water connects to boat, put an inline on/off adapter in the receiver and connect hose to that . have another adapter or y valve at water source before garden hose.Turn off both adapters when away from boat.Anyone can pass by and turn your water on at the source for any reason which happens in my marina all the time.Charlie
