Short in my wiring to 120HP Evenrude

I wrote earlier about every time I turned the key I blew the 20 amp fuse near the solenoid on my 120 HP 'rude in my '83, 18' McKee craft CC. Some one suggested I check the wiring from the ignition switch. I did-what a mess! Someone went to town with the wire cutters, crimpers and splice connectors. Not one guage is connected-lots of wires going nowhere and no fuse block. Looks like I'm going to start from scratch. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a basic wiring manual- Do they make a "Boat Wiring for Dummies"?

Low voltage wiring is the same whether on a car, boat, motorcycle etc., The only difference is because of the marine environment and safety considerations, marine grade wire, switches and terminations should be used. Hit your local library and look for basic low voltage wiring reference manuals.

Boating Magazine's Powerboater's Guide to Electrical Systems by Ed Sherman
Boatowner's Illustrated Handbook of Wiring, by Charlie Wing
Your Boat's Electrical System, by Conrad Miller and E. S. Maloney
Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual, by Nigel Calder
The 12 Volt Bible, by Miner K Brotherton and Ed Sherman

Here you go.

For the engine, the OEM manual is the best. You can get reprints from Ken Cook.
