I have a 14 ft. jon boat that takes a short shaft motor. My question is, if I make an adapter for the long shaft motor to mount on the boat, will there be any harm in doing this? What are the pros and cons? I figured as long as I made my mount to make up the difference, I don't think I'll have a problem. BUT, that's why I'm asking the people that know best. Also is there an adapter mounting bracket like I'm talking about available to purchase?

Sure it is possible to build up the transom but
your talking 5 inches at least, so you will need to be sure you build it strong enough to be a true transom not just a filler block.
Not an expert on jack plates but you may be able to use one .
I think unless the long shaft is a special
motor I would trade for a short shaft.
