Got a question, one of many to follow. Rigging/ weight/balance on a friends boat is way off. First thing I noticed once out of the water is that the 25 in. shaft on this 2 stroke nissan is entirely to long. Is it possible to remove the shaft extension spacer? Is there a drive shaft and shift control extension inside the leg that can be removed or is it all one special piece? How about the tube from the water pump? What a mess! thanks FRED

Re: shortening shaft ?

You will need a new driveshaft, watertube and shift rod and you will have to pull the powerhead to get to the watertube.

Re: shortening shaft ?

Thankyou for the response! Was afraid that would be the answer. Had posted the ? on the general discussion as I figured all O/Bs would handle the extension in the same manner. Time to consider some serious modifications. Measured the distance from the C/L of the prop shaft to where the leg comes out of the water. 28 ins. with another 5 and 1/2 ins. dry to the top of the mounting clamp. 30 ft. houseboat ( LIL HOBO) needs 35 1/2 ins. of water. Stern of the pontoons are 2 ins. out of the water.
Will TOHATUS and NISSAN legs interchange ? regards FRED

Easier to raise the outboard up with a bracket or hydraulic lift.
