Should I buy a Suzuki?

Hello folks,

I am thinking about buying a Suzuki DF15, 15hp 4 stroke outboard. I have been talking to some friends who have owned 15 hp 2 stroke Suzuki's over the last several years. All of them said that they experienced problems with the gears and that if the prop hit a rock even a t low speed it was enough to damage the gears. This problem does not seem to be there with Yamaha or Honda. Does anyone know if the same problem exists with the new range of Suzuki 4 strokes? All comments are very welcome.

Thanks in Advance

Re: Should I buy a Suzuki?

your friends obviously didn't learn that hitting rocks even at low speeds can damage lower unit gears. And just so you know, it works the same way on other engines as well. Did your friends actually own Yamahas, Mercs, Johnsons, or Evinrudes and not have the problem? I just ordered a new pontoon with a Suzy four stroke and don't expect any lower unit problems because I don't plan on hitting any rocks -- but then as they say "stuff happens!"
