Re: Should I call it quits?

If the boat is solid and worth more than your investment, it may be worth it. Around me, that's a $5-6k boat ( well taken care of ), only drawback is the 470 as you probably know. So even if you end up at $4k after repairs ( total, boat cost+ repairs ) it still may be worth it. However, I suspect that by having the boat worked on by a mechanic, those figures will come and go quick.

FWIW, I think you overpaid on the boat by quite a bit. My dad sold his '84 Imperial VC230 that actually ran but needed work for $500, And it was a nice/ well kept boat with good original full canvas. Only thing broke was the latch for the cuddy door

The heat exchanger most likely can be repaired by a radiator shop...or of you know a plumber, they can fix also ;) for cheaper than replacing yours.

Are you intending on doing any of the work yourself or going to have it done? There is lots of help here from marine mechanics to other 470 owners as well as many others.

How are your mechanical skills? The bills will add up fast if all work is to be done by a shop. No matter what boat you buy, there will always be maintenance and repair bills. If you really like this boat then spend the money. If you give up, the next boat may have just as many problems.

I agree with the others. If you are mechanically inclined, have tools, adventurous and are willing to learn you can save a ton of money and it would be worth it to you to fix the boat up yourself. Not only to get it running now and to be able to enjoy it but to build up your confidence to fix any other issue that may arise during your ownership of it.

You can get the heat exchanger fixed and replace the raw water pump yourself.

You'll need to educate yourself on what you have and how to fix it if you're going to attempt any of the repairs needed to keep a 3.7 running properly.

If you give up, the next boat may have just as many problems.

But if the next one is NOT a boat with an obsolete engine and/or drive etc, it will be much easier and cheaper to repair.

Get it fixed right, and sell it next Spring. You'll probably get what you have in it if you do the work yourself.

Make sure your next boat does NOT have 470, 3.7L or OMC anywhere in the description!

I'm calling it quits, even if I do it all my self it sounds like everything needs to be replaced... What do you think I can sell it for?

I wouldn't say you need to replace "everything". You need to fix the heat exchanger and the raw water pump. I wouldn't try to sell ANY boat in the Fall/Winter. If you do decide to sell it, get it running and sell it in Spring or early Summer.
