Hey all //
Background to my situation: Currently own a 91' Bayliner Capri 2050
Rear port corner I thought had a 'soft spot' or so I thought. My fears were calmed when I tore up the carpet to reveal the floor. The deck/plywood is still solid as solid can be. Meaning, zero signs of water damage, rot etc ...
To further investigate, and eliminate dry rot, water damage I drilled a 2" peep hole in the 'troubled area'. Dry as a bone. Again, no dry rot, water damage, foam is dry as a desert under the drilled area.
The seam of my flooring has however broken loose. (see pictures below) I would imagine due to years of stepping in and out of this particular area. Again, zero signs of water damage as the wood is solid as a rock.
I picked up West System 105/205 epoxy resin hardener with some fiberglass tape/strips to repair the seam. Going to sand and prep the area properly and let the resin/glass do it's thing.
My question is: Should I fill the void under this corner of the deck with pourable marine foam? Is it needed? I know from previous experience that the WS 105/205 resin will properly harden and secure this troubled seam, but does the flooring need foam underneath in ALL areas? Should this void be filled?
Thanks!
