Should I fill a void with foam? '91 Bayliner Capri 2050

Hey all //

Background to my situation: Currently own a 91' Bayliner Capri 2050

Rear port corner I thought had a 'soft spot' or so I thought. My fears were calmed when I tore up the carpet to reveal the floor. The deck/plywood is still solid as solid can be. Meaning, zero signs of water damage, rot etc ...

To further investigate, and eliminate dry rot, water damage I drilled a 2" peep hole in the 'troubled area'. Dry as a bone. Again, no dry rot, water damage, foam is dry as a desert under the drilled area.

The seam of my flooring has however broken loose. (see pictures below) I would imagine due to years of stepping in and out of this particular area. Again, zero signs of water damage as the wood is solid as a rock.

I picked up West System 105/205 epoxy resin hardener with some fiberglass tape/strips to repair the seam. Going to sand and prep the area properly and let the resin/glass do it's thing.

My question is: Should I fill the void under this corner of the deck with pourable marine foam? Is it needed? I know from previous experience that the WS 105/205 resin will properly harden and secure this troubled seam, but does the flooring need foam underneath in ALL areas? Should this void be filled?

Thanks!

Your pics did not post. Best way is to get a Free Photobucket account and use the IMG Code to copy and paste them to iBoats.
I don't think the Foam is necessary. I might try to install a cleat but I need pics to see if that's possible.

Interesting, apologies for images not posting. Used flickr to post images—I can put them up on imgur.

I see em now! I'd use a R/O sander with 40 grit and sand that all down and back about 6", wash it with acetone then apply 2 layers of 1708 cloth over it making sure to get it in the drop area off without air bubbles then re-lay the carpet and call it good. You could use some pour in foam to fill the void for good measure if you feel the need. and then put the Hockey Puck plug back in place and glass back over it as well.

WOG //

Thanks for the feedback and help! Spot on with what I 'thought' I should do, just wanted to confirm with somebody who KNEW what to do. So thank you!

The newly laid glass would support that area, does filling it with foam offer any support, or would that solely rest with the new glass? If no support is needed by the foam, then I'll leave that untouched.

Yep, I kept the puck and will use that to fill my golf hole. :)

Thanks again for the help.

If you use the 2# pour in foam and totally fill the void till it comes out the Hockey Puck hole then yes it will provide pretty good support. I was hoping there might be a way to install a cleat under there but I don't see how you could it.
