Recently picked up a Glastron from 2000. Came with a Mercruiser engine. Sorry if it's a dumb question but this is my first ever boat. Trying to get it ready for the water here in Ontario. I noticed the skeg is chipped. Would it be a smart idea to fix it?

Here is a pic of it: https://imgur.com/a/B81VZ

Doesn't look too good to me.
You might consider one of those bolt on skeg guards.
Probably cheaper and more durable than repairing the cast aluminum.

Welcome aboard. You can get it repaired if you want, or you can run it as is. I have had worse

Believe it or not you can reform that yourself using JB Weld.!!! Drill some holes in the existing skeg bottom to give the JBW something to grab hold of then mold the new piece onto it. Sand and shape it and VOILA' she'll be good to go!!;)

Looks a little worse than what I did to my last i/o. Skeggard was my choice. 10 minute install and no need to take anything apart.

Skegguard seems like the easiest and most cost efficient option imo. Unless they're not as good as the other options...
